The first phase of the Dhs 13billion attraction was launched on 18th December after 3 years of construction.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai inaugurated the park alongside Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and other ministers and senior officials.

Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken of ‘Aladdin’ and ‘Little Mermaid’ soundtracks, performed his song for the tourist attraction, fittingly called ‘All Wonders of the Universe’.

Spread over 2.8 million square meters, the park is one of the major milestones set for Expo 2020 which Dubai will be hosting. Dubai has set itself hefty goals for its tourism vision for 2020, several of them have been halted due to limited finances. The completion of Phase 1 of the Dubai Parks and Resorts marks a significant accomplishment in Dubai’s quest for 2020.

The giant amusement park boasts being the region’s first integrated theme park consisting of a combination of different theme parks out of which 3 of them are now open, Motiongate, Legoland Waterpark and Bollywood Parks. Six Flags Dubai will also be part of the park and is expected to be completed by 2019.

Motiongate is an ode to Hollywood, kind of like the Middle East version of Universal Studios. It will be promoting content created by 3 of Hollywood’s biggest studios, DreamWorks, Columbia Pictures and Lionsgate.

Columbia pictures are involved in developing 7 attractions including a water ride, roller coasters, and interactive shows. DreamWorks has set up four areas for its blockbuster hits Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar, and Shrek; all of it is located indoors. In addition, it has 12 attractions including coasters, family rides, multimedia theaters and interactive rides.

Lionsgate is allowing visitors to experience real-life Hollywood sets and thrilling live shows and the famous Step Up movies’ dance routines.

The Bollywood theme park consists of an array of Bollywood-themed restaurants and cafes. Mumbai Chowk mirrors the bustling streets of Mumbai with its mouthwatering street-food party spirit. Rustic Ravine part of park aims to immerse visitors in the settings of Bollywood’s most iconic movies. The region’s first Broadway-style Bollywood Musical will be featured at the Royal Plaza.

Legoland Waterpark designed specifically for kids between ages 2-12 and their families. It features over 20 Lego themed waterslides.
